Declaring the End from the Beginning

Part One · the Father · 1 minute read

“I am God, and there is none else... Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.”
Isaiah 46:9-10

The Truth

You are living somewhere in the middle of a story whose ending you cannot see. God is not. He speaks of what has not yet happened the way you speak of yesterday, with the same settled certainty, because nothing about the future is uncertain to him. There is no version of events he did not already know.

This is what theologians call sovereignty, and it is easy to say and hard to actually trust. It means the news you read this morning, the diagnosis you were not expecting, the plan that fell apart, none of it caught God off guard. His counsel shall stand is not a hope. It is a declaration.

Sovereignty without goodness would be terrifying, a cosmic machine indifferent to you. But this is the same God who called himself merciful and gracious yesterday. His control is not cold. It is the control of a Father who has already told you the end is safe in his hands, even when the middle is confusing.

You do not need to see how your story resolves. You need to know who is writing it. Rest today in a plan that was settled before you were anxious about it.

Live This Truth

  • Name the situation right now where the ending is most unclear to you.
  • Say out loud: his counsel shall stand, even here, even now.
  • Release one specific worry to him today as an act of trust, not resignation.

Prayer

Lord, I cannot see how my story ends, but you already have. Let me trade my need to see for my need to trust. Your counsel stands even where mine cannot see. Amen.

Carry this today

I do not need to see the end. I need to know who is writing it.
