Terms of Use

Plain terms for using this site. Reading it costs nothing, and these are the ground rules.

Last updated October 31, 2026

Using the Site

By using this site you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it. The site is run by Casey Owens in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and "I" and "me" mean Casey Owens. You may read it, link to it and share links to it freely.

What I Own

The essays, the sermons, the devotionals, the course and the page designs are my work, and I keep the copyright in them. You may quote short passages with a credit and a link back to the page. Please don't copy whole essays, republish them or present them as your own.

The museum images on the essays are works in the public domain, credited under each banner. I toned and composed them for this site. Those underlying images are not mine, and the credit lines say where they come from.

Not Medical, Legal or Mental Health Advice

This site is prayer and devotion. They are not medical, legal or mental health advice, and prayer never replaces a doctor or a counselor. Where the sermons discuss folk customs, they are describing history and practice, not promising a result. If you are in crisis in the United States, call or text 988. Outside the US, contact your local emergency number.

Religious Content

What I write reflects my own reading and practice, and I say which sources I'm drawing on. I don't speak for any church, and nothing here is the official teaching of any one. Please check anything that matters to your faith against scripture and your own conscience before God, and against your own church if you belong to one.

Accuracy and Links

I work to get facts right and to name my sources, but I can make mistakes, and some details in the sermons come from secondary sources. If you find an error, tell me and I will correct it. The site links to other websites, and I'm not responsible for their content or what they do.

No Warranty, and Limits

The site is provided as is, with no promise that it will always be available or free of errors. To the extent the law allows, I'm not liable for any loss that comes from using the site or relying on it. Nothing in these terms takes away any right you have under the law that can't be waived.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oklahoma, without regard to conflict of law rules.

Changes

I may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and using the site after a change means you accept it.

Common Questions

Can I quote an essay? Yes, a short passage with credit and a link.

Can I use the museum images? The original works are public domain, and the Met and other museums make them freely available. My toned versions are for this site. Please go to the source.
