His Marvellous Works

← The Feast

“Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth.”
1 Chronicles 16:12

The Feast

This instruction appears within a psalm David composed specifically for public worship, intended to be sung by the whole community, remembrance here practiced not merely privately but corporately, together, the whole gathered people jointly recalling his marvellous works in shared, communal worship.

This is worth noticing as a needed expansion of remembrance beyond merely private, individual practice. This whole book’s first movement has largely explored personal remembering, but this verse suggests remembrance is also meant to be practiced together, communally, strengthened and reinforced through shared, corporate recollection.

Notice marvellous works, wonders, judgments, comprehensive categories, not limited to only the most dramatic miracles, but including the full range of what God has done, worth remembering together as a community, not merely as isolated individuals each privately recalling their own separate experiences.

Consider today one way you might practice this remembrance communally, sharing his marvellous works with others, not merely holding your own private gratitude silently, but joining, as David’s psalm intended, in the shared, corporate recollection this verse describes as genuinely, actively worthwhile.

Keep the Feast

  • Share one specific marvellous work of God with another person today, out loud.
  • Consider joining or initiating a communal practice of remembering God’s faithfulness together.
  • Notice how shared remembrance might strengthen what private remembrance alone sometimes lacks.

Prayer

Lord, let me remember your marvellous works not only privately, but together with others, joining in the shared, corporate remembrance your people have always practiced. Amen.

Carry this today

Remembrance is meant to be practiced together, not only privately.
