Send Portions

Part Three · Overflow · 1 minute read

← The Feast

“Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our LORD.”
Nehemiah 8:10

The Feast

This instruction, returned to now with fresh attention to its second half, names a specific action alongside personal celebration: send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared. Joy, in this instruction, is not meant to be consumed entirely privately, but shared, deliberately, with those who would otherwise have no feast of their own.

This closes the loop connecting yesterday’s inclusive feast instruction with this movement’s larger theme of overflow. Genuine joy, celebrated fully and personally, eat the fat, drink the sweet, is meant to overflow outward, specifically toward those for whom nothing is prepared, rather than remaining contained entirely within your own private celebration.

This is worth examining against however much your own joy and abundance has remained privately consumed, without this deliberate, outward-sending movement this instruction specifically names. Genuine overflow requires this active step, sending portions, not merely feeling generally grateful while those without any feast of their own remain unconsidered.

Consider today someone for whom nothing is prepared, someone genuinely without their own feast, celebration, or abundance currently available to them, and send a portion, deliberately, concretely, following this instruction’s specific, practical shape, joy shared outward, not merely privately enjoyed.

Keep the Feast

  • Identify someone today for whom nothing is prepared, without their own current celebration.
  • Send them a portion today, concretely, deliberately, following this instruction directly.
  • Notice whether your own joy has remained privately consumed without this outward movement.

Prayer

Lord, let me send portions today unto them for whom nothing is prepared. Let my own joy overflow outward, deliberately, not remain privately consumed alone. Amen.

Carry this today

Send portions, deliberately, to those for whom nothing is prepared.
