More Abundantly

Part Three · Overflow · 1 minute read

← The Feast

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
John 10:10

The Feast

Jesus names his own purpose directly here, in explicit contrast to the thief’s purpose. The thief steals, kills, destroys, diminishment and loss. Jesus, by contrast, comes specifically for life, and that more abundantly, not merely minimal survival, but genuine abundance, exceeding what mere existence alone would require.

This is worth holding as the deepest foundation underneath this entire final movement’s exploration of overflow. This abundance is not incidental or occasional, added on top of an otherwise minimal, survival-level faith. It is named here as Christ’s own explicit, primary purpose, that they might have life, and have it more abundantly.

This should reshape how you understand whatever overflow this movement has been exploring across its days, not a rare, occasional bonus added to an otherwise sparse, careful faith, but genuinely central to what Christ actually came for, more abundantly, named directly alongside life itself as his explicit, stated purpose.

Consider today whether your own experience of faith has settled into the thief’s diminished territory, mere minimal survival, careful and sparse, or whether it genuinely reflects the more abundantly Christ specifically named as his own purpose. Receive this abundance today, deliberately, as genuinely, centrally intended for you.

Keep the Feast

  • Notice whether your own faith has settled into mere survival rather than genuine abundance.
  • Receive more abundantly today as Christ’s explicit, central purpose, not an occasional bonus.
  • Distinguish today between the thief’s diminishment and Christ’s own abundant purpose for you.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you that you came for life, and that more abundantly. Let me receive this abundance today as your genuine, central purpose, not merely an occasional bonus. Amen.

Carry this today

Abundance is Christ’s explicit purpose, not an occasional bonus to minimal faith.
