“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.”
The Treasure
Paul names God’s grace as the actual source ensuring sufficiency, all sufficiency in all things, not primarily through careful personal financial management alone, but through grace abounding, God himself making possible both the sufficiency and the resulting good works this whole book’s final movement has been exploring.
Notice the purpose stated: that ye... may abound to every good work. This sufficiency is not given merely for private comfort or security, but specifically so that abundant good work becomes possible, generosity and stewardship flowing naturally from a genuine sufficiency that God himself has made abound, not from anxious, self-generated scarcity management.
This offers real relief against whatever anxiety has governed your own approach to giving, as if generosity required first achieving complete personal financial security through your own unaided effort, before any margin could genuinely, safely be given toward good works. Paul’s language suggests sufficiency and good works can genuinely coexist, both provided by the same abounding grace.
Consider today whether anxiety about insufficient personal resources has been quietly limiting your own capacity for good works, and bring that anxiety to God today, trusting his ability to make all grace abound toward you specifically, providing the sufficiency this verse promises alongside, not instead of, genuine, abundant good work.
