Such Were Some of You

Part Two · Broken · 1 minute read

← The Freed

“And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”
1 Corinthians 6:9-11

The Chain

Paul lists, in the verses preceding this one, a genuinely serious catalog of sins, and then states directly, and such were some of you, past tense, worth noticing precisely, an honest acknowledgment that the specific Corinthian believers he addressed had genuinely, actually included people characterized by these very patterns.

This closes the second movement of this book with a needed, comprehensive testimony, washed, sanctified, justified, three complete transformations named together, in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God, both persons of the Trinity named as the actual, comprehensive source of this genuine change.

This closes the loop this whole second movement has traced. Brokenness offered as sacrifice, confession met with faithful forgiveness, clarity restored producing decisive movement, silence’s cost acknowledged, confession joined with forsaking, refreshing following repentance, visible transformation, ongoing choice required, active cleansing pursued.

As this movement closes, receive Paul’s own testimony as your own genuine possibility. Such were some of you, whatever specific pattern this describes in your own life, and yet, washed, sanctified, justified, comprehensive transformation genuinely available, the actual bridge this book’s final movement will now explore in fuller depth.

Lord, such was I. But I am washed, and sanctified, and justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. Let this comprehensive testimony be genuinely mine. Amen.

Such were some of you. Washed, sanctified, justified, comprehensive transformation genuinely given.
