“Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.”
The Truth
Notice the posture. Jesus sat down. In the Old Testament tabernacle, the priests never sat, because their work of offering sacrifices was never finished, repeated endlessly, year after year, sin after sin. Jesus sits, because his one sacrifice actually finished the work those endless sacrifices could only picture and point toward.
He did not sit down in retirement. He sat down enthroned, at the right hand of the Majesty on high, the seat of highest honor and active rule. The one who upholds all things by the word of his power is not passively waiting somewhere far off. He is reigning right now, actively holding the universe together while you read this sentence.
This matters for how you picture what Jesus is doing today. He is not a historical figure whose work is finished and who is now simply absent until some future return. He is presently reigning, presently interceding for you, presently upholding the very atoms of the world you live in. His work did not stop when he sat down. It changed form.
You serve a King who is seated in authority right now, not a memory waiting to become relevant again someday.
Live This Truth
- Name one situation where you have treated Jesus as absent rather than reigning now.
- Remember today that he actively upholds all things, including your circumstances.
- Pray to him today as one currently reigning, not merely once active.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, you sat down because your work was finished, and you reign right now at the Father’s right hand. Let me live today under a King who is present, not absent. Amen.
Carry this today
He did not stop working. He sat down enthroned.
