Called Thee by Thy Name

Part Two · Known · 1 minute read

← The Face

“But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.”
Isaiah 43:1

The Face

This verse names a specific, personal knowing, called thee by thy name, not a generic address to humanity broadly, but a particular naming, thou art mine, spoken directly to a specific identity. This second movement, turning from being seen toward being genuinely known, opens with this specific, personal claim.

Notice the sequence: created, formed, redeemed, called, thou art mine. Identity here is layered, original creation, ongoing formation, redemptive rescue, and personal naming, all four held together, not identity reduced to only one of these, but the fuller, layered reality this verse actually describes across its whole sentence.

This is worth holding against however much your own identity has been reduced to only one of these categories, perhaps only creation, a generic starting point, without the ongoing formation, redemption, and personal naming this verse also includes as genuinely part of who you actually are.

Whatever layer of this fuller identity currently feels thin or underdeveloped, created but not sensing yourself as formed, redeemed but not sensing yourself as personally named, receive this verse’s fuller claim today. Fear not, for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name, thou art mine, the whole layered reality, genuinely true.

Turn Your Face

  • Notice which layer of this fuller identity, created, formed, redeemed, named, feels thinnest to you.
  • Receive that fuller layer today, specifically, as genuinely, personally true.
  • Say thou art mine to yourself today, receiving this personal naming, not merely generic address.

Prayer

Lord, you created me, formed me, redeemed me, and called me by my name. Thou art mine. Let this whole, layered identity be genuinely mine today, not merely generic address. Amen.

Carry this today

Identity is layered: created, formed, redeemed, and personally named.
