“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
The Face
Paul names workmanship here, a specific, crafted quality, not accidental assembly but deliberate, skilled creation, the same word elsewhere translated poem or work of art. This is worth holding as a needed corrective against any sense that your own existence is merely random, unremarkable, or without deliberate design.
Notice created in Christ Jesus unto good works, purpose named directly alongside creation. This workmanship is not merely decorative, made simply to exist, but made unto good works, purposeful, aimed at something, ordained in advance, a specific path already prepared for you to actually walk in.
This is worth examining against however much your own sense of purpose has felt absent or uncertain, as if you were still searching for meaning that might not actually exist. This verse insists otherwise, good works already ordained, prepared in advance, genuinely there for you to walk in, not invented from nothing.
Consider today what good work, however small or seemingly ordinary, might be part of this already-prepared path this verse describes. You are his workmanship, deliberately crafted, unto good works genuinely prepared in advance, not left to invent purpose entirely from nothing on your own.
Turn Your Face
- Consider your own life as deliberate workmanship, not accidental or unremarkable assembly.
- Look today for one good work already prepared in advance, ready for you to walk into.
- Release any sense that purpose must be invented from nothing rather than discovered, already prepared.
Prayer
Lord, I am your workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works you have already ordained. Let me walk in what is already prepared, not search for purpose from nothing. Amen.
Carry this today
You are deliberate workmanship, with good works already prepared in advance.
