“God setteth the solitary in families.”
Psalm 68:6

The Body

This brief phrase names something worth sitting with directly: God himself is the one who sets the solitary in families, an active, deliberate placement rather than something left to chance or entirely up to individual initiative. Community, in this picture, is something God does, not merely something you must independently construct entirely on your own.

This matters for anyone who has genuinely felt solitary, isolated, without the natural family or community structure others seem to have found more easily. This verse names God as the one who sets, actively working to place the solitary somewhere, not leaving isolation as simply a permanent, unaddressed condition.

This does not mean community arrives without any effort or participation on your own part. But it does mean the deeper initiative is genuinely God’s own, working actively to place solitary people into genuine family, whether biological, spiritual, or the fellowship of believers this whole book is exploring across its thirty days.

Whatever solitariness you are currently carrying, bring it to God today specifically, trusting this verse’s claim that he is the one who sets the solitary in families, actively working toward your genuine placement, not leaving you to solve isolation entirely through your own unaided effort.

Strengthen the Body

  • Name honestly any solitariness you are currently carrying.
  • Bring it to God today, trusting him as the one who actively sets the solitary in families.
  • Take one small step toward a family, biological or spiritual, he may be placing you within.

Prayer

Lord, you set the solitary in families. I bring my own solitariness to you today, trusting your active work to place me, not leaving me to solve this entirely alone. Amen.

Carry this today

God actively sets the solitary in families. This is his initiative, not only yours.
