Fishers of Men

← The Few

“And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Matthew 4:19

The Few

Jesus names both an invitation and a transformation here, follow me, and I will make you, worth noticing this order directly. The making, becoming genuinely capable of this new work, follows the following, not preceding it as a prerequisite qualification required before the actual invitation could be extended.

This is worth examining against however much you have delayed investing in others, waiting to feel sufficiently qualified first, rather than trusting this verse’s actual pattern, following produces the making, capability developed through the actual process of following, not required in advance of it.

Notice fishers of men, a specific, concrete image, these actual fishermen’s existing skill genuinely repurposed, not entirely discarded but transformed toward this new, specific purpose, worth holding as encouragement that whatever skill or experience you already have is genuinely usable, redirected rather than replaced.

Whatever hesitation has kept you from actually investing in someone else, waiting to feel sufficiently equipped first, follow today, trusting this verse’s own promise, I will make you, the actual capability developed through following itself, not required as a prerequisite before you are permitted to begin.

Pour Into the Few

  • Notice any hesitation to invest in others rooted in feeling insufficiently qualified first.
  • Follow today, trusting that capability develops through following, not as a prerequisite to it.
  • Consider what existing skill or experience might be genuinely repurposed for this new work.

Prayer

Lord, I follow you today, trusting your promise, I will make you. Let capability develop through this following itself, not required in advance before I am permitted to begin. Amen.

Carry this today

Capability develops through following, not as a prerequisite required before beginning.
