As Strong This Day

Part One · Faithful · 1 minute read

← The Finish

“And now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years... And now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old. As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me.”
Joshua 14:10-11

The Finish

Caleb names something worth noticing directly at eighty-five years old, as strong this day as I was, worth holding as genuine testimony against assuming diminished strength is the only, inevitable pattern aging must produce, Caleb himself testifying to sustained, genuine strength across these many, accumulated years.

Notice the LORD hath kept me alive, the specific source named for this sustained strength, not Caleb’s own independent effort alone, but God’s own active keeping, worth holding as this whole book’s own pattern, genuine strength in aging connected specifically to God’s own sustaining, active involvement.

This is worth examining against whatever assumption you have made about your own inevitable decline, not denying genuine physical change that does, honestly, accompany aging, but considering whether Caleb’s own testimony, sustained strength for the specific work still remaining, might also, genuinely apply to your own current season.

Whatever work still remains for you in this current season, consider today Caleb’s own testimony as genuine possibility, not naive denial of physical change, but trust that the LORD who hath kept him alive can genuinely sustain whatever strength your own remaining work still, actually requires.

Finish Well

  • Consider what work still genuinely remains for you in this current season of life.
  • Trust that God can sustain whatever strength this remaining work actually requires.
  • Name honestly one area where you have assumed inevitable decline without actually testing it.

Prayer

Lord, you have kept Caleb alive, strong at eighty-five, for the work still remaining. Keep me the same way, sustaining whatever strength my own remaining work requires. Amen.

Carry this today

Sustained strength in aging is connected to God’s own active keeping, not independent effort alone.
