Revive Thy Work

Part Three · Carried · 2 minute read

← The Flame

“O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.”
Habakkuk 3:2

The Flame

Habakkuk prays this specific request, revive thy work in the midst of the years, worth noticing its timing precisely, not at the very beginning of some new endeavor, but in the midst, the actual, ongoing middle of a lengthy process, a genuine, needed prayer for renewal even, especially, in the middle of a long, sustained journey.

This is worth holding as genuine permission to pray this same prayer whenever your own sustained journey, in whatever midst of years you currently occupy, has grown tired, needing revival not because the original beginning was flawed, but because genuine, ongoing revival is worth actively, repeatedly seeking across a whole, extended life.

Notice in wrath remember mercy, Habakkuk’s honest acknowledgment of genuine, present difficulty, wrath genuinely present in his own historical moment, and yet, alongside this honest naming, genuine request for mercy remembered even within that difficulty, both held together in this same, honest prayer.

Whatever midst of years currently describes your own sustained journey, pray today Habakkuk’s own specific prayer. Revive thy work, in this actual middle, not merely at some future, easier beginning, and in whatever wrath or difficulty is genuinely present, ask for mercy remembered, the same honest, hopeful prayer this verse models directly.

Tend the Flame

  • Pray for revival specifically in the midst of your own current, ongoing season, not merely at a fresh start.
  • Name honestly whatever wrath or difficulty is genuinely present in your own current midst of years.
  • Ask for mercy remembered within that honest difficulty, following Habakkuk’s own combined, honest prayer.

Prayer

O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of my own years, right now, in this actual middle. In whatever wrath or difficulty is present, remember mercy, the way Habakkuk prayed. Amen.

Carry this today

Revival is worth seeking in the actual midst of a long journey, not only at a fresh beginning.
