A Thirty Day Flame

The Flame

Kindled, Tested, and Carried Forward

Begin Day 1 ↓

Thirty Days · Kindled, Tested, Carried

Thirty days for the fire that first drew you, and the God who keeps it burning.

Read this the way you would actually tend a fire you do not want to let go out: honest about what has cooled, willing to do the work of rekindling, patient enough to tend it for the long haul.

For the next thirty days you are going to look honestly at your own first love: what it actually felt like when it was kindled, what genuinely tests and cools it, and what it actually takes to carry a flame across a whole lifetime, not just a single season. This will not be a study that shames you for having cooled. It takes the testing as seriously as the kindling, because a fire that has never been tested has not yet proven it can actually last.

The work is arranged in three movements of ten days each. First, Kindled: the genuine, felt reality of first love, remembered and pursued again. Then, Tested: an honest look at what actually cools devotion, named specifically rather than vaguely. Then, Carried: what it takes to sustain real fire across seasons, years, and an entire lifetime.

Each day gives you the same tools. A verse to anchor you. A short reflection to be read slowly, not skimmed. A response to actually live out, because truth you only agree with changes little in an actual, cooling heart. A prayer to pray in your own words. And one line to carry with you into the day ahead.

How to use it: read one day at a time, unhurried, in order if you can. Let the reflection meet your actual love for God, not an idealized version of it. Actually do the response. Pray the prayer, then keep praying in your own words.

All Scripture here is from the King James Version. Whatever has cooled, he is able to make it burn again. Begin.

“Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.” Revelation 2:4
