An Anchor of the Soul

Part Two · Anchored · 1 minute read

← The Flood

“Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil.”
Hebrews 6:19

The Storm

This verse names hope specifically as an anchor, worth noticing this precise image, not merely a pleasant feeling but a functional, stabilizing device, sure and stedfast, worth holding as this whole book’s own title image, an anchor genuinely capable of holding steady even while the surrounding water continues, genuinely, to move.

Notice entereth into that within the veil, this anchor’s specific location, not anchored to something visible and nearby, but reaching into the actual, unseen presence of God himself, worth examining against however much your own attempted anchoring has relied on visible, nearby, and therefore genuinely unstable things instead.

This is worth applying directly to whatever storm currently surrounds you. An anchor does not prevent the storm itself, waves and wind continue regardless, but it prevents the ship from being genuinely, dangerously swept away, worth holding as this whole movement’s own realistic aim, not calm circumstances but stedfast holding within them.

Whatever storm continues around you today, consider what your own soul is actually anchored to, something visible and nearby, genuinely unstable, or this described hope, reaching within the veil, sure and stedfast, worth deliberately, actually anchoring yourself to today, regardless of whether the surrounding storm itself has calmed.

Find the Still

  • Examine what your own soul is currently anchored to, visible circumstance or this deeper, stedfast hope.
  • Anchor yourself deliberately today to hope within the veil, not to nearby, unstable circumstances.
  • Trust that this anchor holds you steady within the storm, not requiring the storm itself to first calm.

Prayer

Lord, let hope be the anchor of my soul, sure and stedfast, reaching within the veil, not anchored to visible circumstances that shift and change with every wave. Amen.

Carry this today

A genuine anchor holds you steady within the storm, not requiring the storm to first calm.
