Power to Tread

Part Three · Overcome · 1 minute read

← The Foe

“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Luke 10:19

The Battle

Jesus names comprehensive, given authority here, power to tread, over all the power of the enemy, not partial protection against some threats while others remain genuinely dangerous, but comprehensive authority, over all, given directly, not achieved through your own increasingly sophisticated spiritual effort.

This is worth examining against whatever specific fear currently makes you feel genuinely vulnerable, as if this comprehensive promise surely could not extend to this particular threat. This verse names all the power of the enemy, without qualification or exception carved out for whatever feels most currently, genuinely threatening.

Notice nothing shall by any means hurt you, a comprehensive promise worth holding with appropriate nuance, not denying that genuine suffering and hardship remain real possibilities this life still contains, but insisting that the enemy’s ultimate power, his final ability to genuinely destroy, has been comprehensively, decisively broken.

Whatever specific threat currently makes this promise feel too large to genuinely apply, receive today this comprehensive authority Jesus gives directly. Power to tread, over all the power of the enemy, given, not earned, comprehensive, not partial, worth trusting even where the specific application still requires ongoing, genuine faith to actually walk out.

Stand Firm

  • Name the specific threat that makes this comprehensive promise feel hardest to genuinely trust.
  • Receive today this given authority as comprehensive, not partial, even where application requires ongoing faith.
  • Walk in this power today, deliberately, treading specifically where fear has previously held ground.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for giving me power to tread over all the power of the enemy. Let me walk in this comprehensive authority today, even where fear has previously held ground. Amen.

Carry this today

This given authority is comprehensive, over all the power of the enemy, not partial.
