“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
The Reality
Guilt says you did something bad. Shame says you are something bad. Guilt can lead you to repentance and back to God. Shame drives you away from him, into hiding, and hiding is where every stronghold grows strongest. The enemy loves shame, because a hiding man is an easy man to keep bound.
Watch the difference play out in Eden. When Adam sinned, the very first thing he did was hide, and cover himself, and blame. That is shame’s whole strategy: separate the man from the God who could actually heal him. Shame convinces you that the answer to your failure is more distance, when the only cure is to come close.
Here is the line that breaks the stronghold: no condemnation. Not less condemnation, not condemnation you can slowly work off. None. If you are in Christ, the verdict on you has already been spoken, and it is not guilty. Your failures are real and they matter, but they are not your name and they are not your sentence.
So stop hiding. Bring the thing into the light before God and before one trusted man. Shame dies in the light and thrives in the dark. The moment you say the true thing out loud and are met with grace instead of rejection, the fortress cracks. Come out of the trees. There is no condemnation waiting for you there, only a Father who has been calling your name.
The Battle Plan
- Name the difference in your life between guilt and shame right now.
- Bring one hidden thing into the light with God and one safe person.
- Preach to yourself out loud: there is no condemnation for me in Christ.
Prayer
Lord, shame has kept me in the trees, certain that distance was the answer to my failure. But you call me out and speak no condemnation over me. Let me believe your verdict more than my shame, and come home. Amen.
Carry this today
Shame dies in the light. There is no condemnation for me.
