When He Came to Himself

Part Two · Broken · 1 minute read

← The Freed

“And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father.”
Luke 15:17-18

The Chain

This verse names a specific moment worth noticing precisely, came to himself, suggesting a genuine return to clarity, as if the preceding pattern had involved a kind of self-deception or fog now, finally, lifting, clear-eyed recognition replacing whatever confusion had previously governed his choices.

This is worth examining as a needed, hopeful pattern for your own struggle, that clarity is genuinely possible, coming to yourself, even after however long a pattern has governed your choices with its own accompanying fog or self-deception, this same clear-eyed return available, not permanently foreclosed by however long the pattern has lasted.

Notice the immediate result of this clarity: I will arise and go to my father, decisive action following directly from this restored clarity, not merely improved feeling but genuine, concrete movement, actual arising, actual going, decision translated immediately into intended action.

Whatever fog your own pattern has produced, ask God today for this same coming to himself, genuine clarity restored, and let it produce, as it did for this son, immediate, decisive movement, not merely improved feeling but the actual arising and going this verse names as clarity’s genuine, intended fruit.

Break the Chain

  • Ask God today for genuine clarity, coming to yourself, regarding your own pattern’s actual cost.
  • Notice any fog or self-deception the pattern has produced, and ask for it to genuinely lift.
  • Let restored clarity produce immediate, decisive movement today, not merely improved feeling.

Prayer

Lord, let me come to myself today, the way this son did, clarity replacing whatever fog my own pattern has produced. Let it move me to arise and actually go to you. Amen.

Carry this today

Clarity restored should produce immediate, decisive movement, not merely improved feeling.
