Faithful and Just to Forgive

Part Two · Broken · 1 minute read

← The Freed

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 1:9

The Chain

John names two specific qualities here, faithful and just, worth examining directly. Faithful suggests reliable, consistent, not occasional or uncertain forgiveness. Just is worth particular attention, forgiveness named not merely as mercy extended despite justice, but as itself, somehow, an act of genuine justice.

This just quality is grounded elsewhere in scripture in Christ’s own atoning work, justice genuinely satisfied, not bypassed, meaning your own confession is met with forgiveness that is not merely kind but actually, genuinely just, fully accounting for what confession names, not glossing over it but genuinely, justly forgiving it.

Notice if we confess, the specific condition named, not elaborate penance, not sufficient self- punishment first, simply confess, honest naming, met directly with this faithful and just forgiveness and cleansing, comprehensive, from all unrighteousness, not merely the specific sin confessed but comprehensive cleansing alongside it.

Whatever sin you have been reluctant to actually confess, perhaps assuming forgiveness must first be earned through sufficient shame or penance, confess it today, simply, directly, trusting this verse’s actual, stated condition, and receive the faithful and just forgiveness and comprehensive cleansing this verse promises follows.

Break the Chain

  • Confess whatever sin you have been reluctant to name, simply and directly, today.
  • Trust this verse’s actual condition, confession alone, not additional earned penance first.
  • Receive comprehensive cleansing today, not merely forgiveness for the single sin confessed.

Prayer

Lord, I confess my sin to you today. Thank you that you are faithful and just to forgive, and to cleanse me from all unrighteousness, comprehensively, not merely partially. Amen.

Carry this today

Confession, simply offered, is met with faithful, just, and comprehensive forgiveness.
